Defamation Order 2026
I make the following order under
section 35(3) of the
Defamation Act 2005
. 25 May 2026 GUY BARNETT Minister for Justice, Corrections and Rehabilitation
1.
Short title
This order may be cited as the
Defamation Order 2026 .
2.
Commencement
This order takes effect on 1 July 2026.
3.
Maximum damages amount
For the purposes of
section 35(1) of the
Defamation Act 2005
, the maximum damages amount that is to apply from 1 July 2026 is declared to be $520 000. Displayed and numbered in accordance with the
Rules Publication Act 1953 . Notified in the Gazette on 3 June 2026 This order is administered in the Department of Justice.
