NORTHERN TERRITORY OF AUSTRALIA COBOURG PENINSULA ABORIGINAL LAND AND SANCTUARY (ENTRY AND CAMPING) BY-LAWS 1986 As in force at 4 June 1997 Table of provisions 1 Citation ............................................................................................ 1 2 Application of By-laws ..................................................................... 1 4 Camping .......................................................................................... 2 5 Camping fees .................................................................................. 2 5A Fees may be waived ........................................................................ 3 6 Offence ............................................................................................ 3 ENDNOTES -- 1 of 6 -- -- 2 of 6 -- NORTHERN TERRITORY OF AUSTRALIA ____________________ As in force at 4 June 1997 ____________________ COBOURG PENINSULA ABORIGINAL LAND AND SANCTUARY (ENTRY AND CAMPING) BY-LAWS 1986 By-laws under the Cobourg Peninsula Aboriginal Land, Sanctuary and Marine Park Act 1981 1 Citation These By-laws may be cited as the Cobourg Peninsula Aboriginal Land and Sanctuary (Entry and Camping) By-laws 1986. 2 Application of By-laws These By-laws do not apply to: (a) a member of the group; (b) a person resident in the sanctuary or a member of the family of such a person; (c) a member of the crew of a fishing vessel who enters the sanctuary for the purpose of collecting supplies to be used on that fishing vessel; (d) a person who, with the approval of the Board, conducts tours of the sanctuary who enters the sanctuary for the purpose of conducting a tour; (e) an employee of the Commonwealth or the Northern Territory, or of an authority of the Commonwealth or the Northern Territory, who enters the sanctuary in the course of his employment with the Commonwealth, the Territory or the authority; (f) a person who enters the sanctuary for the purpose of carrying out scientific research or investigation in accordance with a licence issued under section 111 of the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976; or (g) a person who has not attained the age of 16 years. -- 3 of 6 -- Cobourg Peninsula Aboriginal Land and Sanctuary (Entry and Camping) By-laws 1986 2 4 Camping (1) The Board may, by means of clearly marked signs, designate areas within the sanctuary as camping areas. (2) A person shall not camp on the sanctuary: (a) except within an area designated as a camping area under clause (1); and (b) unless he is authorised to do so by a camping permit. (3) The Board may, on application by a person and after payment of the fee prescribed in by-law 5, grant to that person a camping permit. (3A) A camping permit granted under clause (3) to a person who enters the sanctuary in a motor vehicle authorises the holder and 4 other persons to camp in a camping area for 7 nights. (3B) In addition to the persons referred to in clause (3A), a person may camp in a camping area under a camping permit granted to a person who enters the sanctuary in a motor vehicle if the fee specified in by-law 5(2) is paid for each night the person camps in the camping area. (3C) A camping permit granted under clause (3) to a person who enters the sanctuary from a vessel or aircraft authorises the holder to camp in a camping area for the number of nights specified in the camping permit. (4) A camping permit granted under clause (3) may be subject to such conditions as the Board thinks fit and endorses on the permit, and may include conditions relating to: (a) the camping area in which, and the period during which, a person may camp; and (b) the mode of travel which shall be adopted by a person in reaching the camping area in which he is permitted to camp. (5) A person who is the holder of a camping permit granted under clause (3) shall not camp in the sanctuary otherwise than in accordance with the conditions of that camping permit. 5 Camping fees (1) The fee for a camping permit granted to a person who enters the sanctuary in a motor vehicle is $200. -- 4 of 6 -- Cobourg Peninsula Aboriginal Land and Sanctuary (Entry and Camping) By-laws 1986 3 (2) The fee for a person referred to in by-law 4(3B) to camp in a camping area is $10. (3) The fee for a camping permit granted to a person who enters the sanctuary by a vessel or aircraft is $15 for each night the person intends to camp in the camping area. 5A Fees may be waived The Board may waive a fee otherwise payable under these By-laws. 6 Offence A person not being a person referred to in by-law 2 who contravenes, or fails to comply with, these By-laws is guilty of a regulatory offence.
