No. 62/2004 Control of Weapons Act 1990 Control of Weapons (Amendment) Regulations 2004 The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations: Dated: 16 June 2004 Responsible Minister: ANDRÉ HAERMEYER Minister for Police and Emergency Services DIANE CASEY Clerk of the Executive Council 1. Objective The objective of these Regulations is to amend the Control of Weapons Regulations 2000 to change the status of swords and crossbows from controlled weapons to prohibited weapons. 2. Authorising provision These Regulations are made under section 12 of the Control of Weapons Act 1990. 3. Commencement These Regulations come into operation on 1 July 2004. 4. Principal Regulations In these Regulations the Control of Weapons Regulations 2000 1 are called the Principal Regulations. -- 2 of 4 -- Victorian Legislation Parliamentary Documents S.R. No. 62/2004 Control of Weapons (Amendment) Regulations 2004 2 5. Addition of items to Schedule 2 (1) For item 13 of Schedule 2 to the Principal Regulations substitute— '13. "Crossbow", being a type of bow fixed transversely on a stock grooved to direct a dart, bolt or arrow and being, in particular— (a) a "Pistol Crossbow", being a crossbow that is reasonably capable of being carried or concealed about the person and of being raised and discharged by one hand; and (b) a "General Category Crossbow", being a crossbow that is not a pistol crossbow.'. (2) After item 46 of Schedule 2 to the Principal Regulations insert— '47. "Sword", being a thrusting, striking or cutting weapon with a long blade having 1 or 2 edges and a hilt or handle.'. 6. Revocation of items in Schedule 3 In Schedule 3 to the Principal Regulations, items 1 and 5 are revoked. ═══════════════ r. 5 -- 3 of 4 -- Victorian Legislation Parliamentary Documents S.R.
