THIS matter coming on for he:Jring before the Commission on 28 Jun e and
25 September 19 96. this Commission doth order that the said Award be
varied as follows as from the twenty - first day of October, 1996:-
1. In clau se 3.1 (Classification Definitions) -
(a) by de leting provisions (a) and (b) of subclause (2) and insening the
following in lieu there.of:-
"( 2) Trai11er/Supervi.wr/Co-ordinawr -
(a) Trainer/Supervi.wr/Co-ordinawr - Level I - Responsible for the
work of other employees an<Vor provision of structured on-the-job
training. Such an employee has completed 9 modules appropriate to
supervision/training skills or equivalent in addition to any other
appropriate production. trade or tec hn ical qua li fication or
equivalent. Such an employee shall receive not les., t han 122% of
the rate paid to the highest technically qualifi ed empl oyee
supervised or trained.
It has been agreed i n pnnciple that a trainer/supervisor/co-ordinator
who acquires additional accredited tec hnica l training which is
relevant tO the performance of such empl oyees work sha ll receive
an additional amount to be neg otiated between the panics.
Notwithstanding, no supervi so r/trai ner/co-ordinator shall receive an
increa.se l es.s than any ge neral wage inc rease awarded by the
Queensland Industrial Relations Commission and any future Award
increases not su bje ct to an agreeme nt on absorption.
Despite the above definition, an employee who has not completed
the specified trai ning or eq uiv alen t for this level may enter this
cla.ssification consi stent with 6.5.2 of the Implementation Manual
( Award Restruc.turing) until such time a., the competency stand:lrd,
for this level are finalised.

supervision and/or training of Trainers/Supervisors/Co-ordinator -
Level I. Such an employee ha., completed 15 modules appropriate
to supervision/training skills or equivalent in addition to any other
appropriate production, trade or technical q ua lification or
equivalent. Such an employee shall recei ve not Jes_, than I I 5':l'o of
the highest rate of pay of tho.se persons supervi sed and/or trained.
Desp i te the above definition, an employee who ha, not completed
the specified training or equivalent for this level may enter this
classification co nsistent with 6.5.2 of th e lmplemenwtion Manual
( Award Restruc1uring) un til such time a~ the competency stand:lrds
for this level arc finalised. ";
(b} by de leting from the first paragraph of subclauses (5) and (6} the
words "t rain ing or expc1ience":
(c} by deleting from subclauses (8)(a). (9)(a) ,md (IO)(a) the words
" prescribtd in t.he im pl ementation Manual'' and "subject to the standards
prescribed by the Implemen ta tion Manual" and inserting the words " or
equivalent" i n lieu thereof in each instance ;
(d) by deleting from subclause (8)(b) the words "equivalent level of
training and/or experience to a C9 tradesperson" and inserting the words "the
level of training and/or experience of a C9 Engineering Tradesperson. or
equivalent" in lieu thereof;
(e) by deleting from subcl au se (9)(b) the words "equivalent level of
training and/or experience to an Engineering Tradesperson Level Ill " and
1n se11 ing the words "the level of training and/or experience of an Engineering
Trad esperson Level Ill or equivalent" in lieu thereof:
(f) by de leting from subcla use ( I 0)(b) the words "equivalent level of
training and/or experience to an Engineeri ng Tradesperson - Special Cl a.,s"
and inserting th e word~ "t he level of trai ni ng and/or experience of an
Engineering Trndcsperson - Special Class or equivalent" in lieu thereof:
(g) by deleting from subclausc.s ( 11)(a) and ( 12/(a) the words "as
pre.-c ribed in the Implementation Manual" and inse rting the words "or
equivalent" in lieu thereof:
(h) by deleting from subclause ( I l)(b) the words "equivalent level of
traini ng and skills to an Advanced Engineering Tradesperson - Level I" and
inserting the words " th e level of training and skill s of an Advanced
Engrne eri ng Tradesperson - Level I or equi va l e111" in lieu th ereof;
(i) by deleting from subclause ( l2)(b) the words "equivalent level of
training and/or experience to that of an Advanced Engineering Tradesperson
Level II" and in sening the words " the l eve l of training and skills of an
Advanced Engin ee cing Traclesperson Level II or equivalent" i n lieu thereof;
U) by deleting from subcl auses ( 13}, (I 4). ( 15) and ( 16) the words "or
the equivalent level of accredited training'' and insening "or equivalent" in
lieu thereof in each instance: and
(k) by adding a new subclause (20) a.~ follows .-
"(20) Where it appears m the classification definitions in this clause.
the phrase 'o r equivalent·. means:
(a) Any training which the State Traini ng Authority ha., recogni sed a.~
eq uivalent to an accredited course which the Manufacturing,
Engineering and Re l ated Services Industry Training Advisory Body
(MERS IT AB) recognises for this level. This can include advanced
standing through recognition of prior learning and/or ove rsea.,
qualifications.
OR
(b) Where competencies meet the requiremenL~ set out in the National
Metal and Engi neeri ng Competency Standards in accordance with
the Implementation Guide for Implementing Competency Standard,
in the Metals and Engineering lndusuy .".
