No. 95/2002 Fair Trading Act 1999 Fair Trading (Prescribed Safety Standard for Baby Walkers) Regulations 2002 The Administrator as the Governor's Deputy with the advice of the Executive Council makes the following Regulations: Dated: 8 October 2002 Responsible Minister: CHRISTINE CAMPBELL Minister for Consumer Affairs HELEN DOYE Clerk of the Executive Council 1. Objective The objective of these Regulations is to prescribe a safety standard for baby walkers. 2. Authorising provisions These Regulations are made under sections 34 and 165 of the Fair Trading Act 1999. 3. Commencement These Regulations come into operation on 1 November 2002. 4. Prescribed safety standard for baby walkers (1) In this regulation— "baby walker" means a device that— (a) consists of a frame on wheels designed to support, inside the frame and with -- 2 of 4 -- S.R. No. 95/2002 Fair Trading (Prescribed Safety Standard for Baby Walkers) Regulations 2002 2 the child's feet touching the ground, a child who has not yet learned to walk; and (b) is propelled by the movement of the child; "F 977-00" means the American Society for Testing and Materials Consumer Safety Specification for Infant Walkers, published in July 2000 and available from the website of the American Society for Testing and Materials (www.astm.org). (2) For the purposes of section 33 of the Fair Trading Act 1999, the prescribed safety standard for baby walkers is set out in sections 6.1, 6.4 and 9.3 of F 977-00. ═══════════════ r. 4 -- 3 of 4 -- S.R.
