No. 133/1998 Health Act 1958 Health (Infectious Diseases) (Notification) Regulations 1998 The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations: Dated: 27 October 1998 Responsible Minister: ROB KNOWLES Minister for Health SHARNE BRYAN Clerk of the Executive Council 1. Objective The objective of these Regulations is to provide for the notification of Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome (HUS) and Verotoxin producing Escherichia coli (VTEC) infection. 2. Authorising provisions These Regulations are made under sections 146, 390(1) and 391 of the Health Act 1958. 3. Principal Regulations In these Regulations the Health (Infectious Diseases) Regulations 19901 are called the Principal Regulations. -- 2 of 4 -- S.R. Infectious diseases In Schedule 1 to the Principal Regulations, in the list of items headed "Diseases or conditions caused by bacterial infections", for the item "Escherichia coli infections" substitute "Escherichia coli infections, including the syndrome Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome (HUS)". 5. Notifiable diseases In Schedule 2 to the Principal Regulations— (a) in Group A— (i) after "Diseases" insert "or conditions"; (ii) after the item "Food-borne and water- borne illness (two or more related cases)" insert "Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome (HUS)"; (b) in Group B— (i) after "Diseases" insert "or conditions"; (ii) after the item "Tuberculosis" insert "Verotoxin producing Escherichia coli (VTEC)"; (c) in Group C, after "Diseases" insert "or conditions"; (d) in Group D, after "Diseases" insert "or conditions". 6. Human pathogenic organisms In Schedule 4 to the Principal Regulations, after the item "Salmonella species" insert "Verotoxin producing Escherichia coli (VTEC)". ═══════════════ r. 4 -- 3 of 4 -- S.R.
