No. 81/1996 Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Act 1981 Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances (Labelling and Container) (Amendment) Regulations 1996 The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations: Dated: 20 August 1996 Responsible Minister: ROB KNOWLES Minister for Health N. Objective The objective of these Regulations is to include in the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Regulations 1995 certain amendments made to the Commonwealth standard in relation to— (a) the general order of appearance of labelling requirements on labels of drugs and poisons and specifically the labelling requirements for safety directions, dry chlorinating compounds and alkaline salts; and (b) the nominal capacity of containers of hydrochloric acid that require child-resistant closures. -- 2 of 6 -- S.R. Authorising provision These Regulations are made under section 132 of the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Act 1981. 3. Principal Regulations In these Regulations the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Regulations 19951 are called the Principal Regulations. 4. Amendments to regulation 85(1) In regulation 85(1) of the Principal Regulations— (a) in paragraph (a), after "line" insert "or lines"; and (b) for paragraph (c) substitute— "(c) in letters at least half the height of the largest letter or numeral on the label, but the signal need not be larger than— (i) 6 millimetres on labels for packages having a nominal capacity of 2 litres or less; or (ii) 15 millimetres on labels for packages having a nominal capacity of more than 2 litres; and"; and (c) in paragraph (d), after "line" insert "or lines"; and (d) in paragraph (e), after "line" insert "or lines". 5. Amendment to regulation 86 In regulation 86 of the Principal Regulations— (a) in paragraph (a), after "line" insert "or lines"; and r. 2 -- 3 of 6 -- S.R. Amendments to regulation 87 In regulation 87 of the Principal Regulations— (a) in paragraph (a), after "line" (where twice occurring) insert "or lines"; and (b) in paragraph (d), after "line" insert "or lines". 7. Amendments to regulation 98 In regulation 98 of the Principal Regulations— (a) in paragraph (a), for ", is written-" substitute "or the cautionary statement "READ SAFETY DIRECTIONS" is written-"; and (b) in paragraph (a)(i), after "line" (where first occurring) insert "or lines"; and (c) in paragraph (a)(iv), after "line" insert "or lines". 8. Amendments to regulation 103 In regulation 103 of the Principal Regulations— (a) in paragraph (b), after "line" insert "or lines"; and (b) in paragraph (d), before "lines" insert "line or". 9. Amendments to regulation 107 In regulation 107 of the Principal Regulations— (a) in paragraph (a), after "line" insert "or lines"; and (b) in paragraph (d), after "line" insert "or lines". 10. Amendment to regulation 117 r. 6 -- 4 of 6 -- S.R. No. 81/1996 Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances (Labelling and Container) (Amendment) Regulations 1996 4 In regulation 117 of the Principal Regulations, in the table, for the item relating to Hydrochloric acid substitute— "Hydrochloric acid when it is a Schedule 6 poison 5 litres or less". ═══════════════ r. 10 -- 5 of 6 -- S.R.
