Firearms (Prohibited Firearms) Regulations 1996
The Lieutenant-Governor as the Governor's Deputy with the
advice of the Executive Council makes the following
Regulations:

1. Objective
The objective of these Regulations is to prescribe
prohibited firearms.
2. Authorising provision
These Regulations are made under section
49(1)(db) of the Firearms Act 1958.
3. Commencement
These Regulations come into operation on 1
October 1996.
4. Prohibited Firearms
For Regulation 36(1)(e) of the Firearms
Regulations 1995 1 substitute—

"(e) semi-automatic rimfire rifles;
(f) semi-automatic shotguns;
(g) pump action shotguns.".
For Regulation 36(3) of the Firearms Regulations
19952 substitute—
'(3) In sub-regulation (1)—
"semi-automatic" when used to describe a
rifle or shotgun, means a rifle or
shotgun which is constructed or has
been, at any time, constructed so that—
(a) the discharge of each bullet or
missile requires a separate
application of pressure to the
trigger; and
(b) the energy of the discharge is used
as part of the reloading cycle of
the rifle or the shotgun as the case
may be.'.
5. Sunset of regulations
The amendments made to the Firearms
Regulations 1995 by these regulations cease to
have effect on 30 September 1997.
