No. 59/1996 Supreme Court Act 1986 Supreme Court Library Rules 1996 The Judges of the Supreme Court make the following Rules: 1. Object The object of these Rules is to make Rules with respect to the Supreme Court Library. 2. Authorising provisions These Rules are made under section 25 of the Supreme Court Act 1986 and all other enabling powers. 3. Revocation The 1 Supreme Court Library Rules 1985 are revoked. 4. Supreme Court Library Committee The Supreme Court Library shall be under the control of a committee called the "Supreme Court Library Committee". 5. Composition of committee The Committee shall consist of the Chief Justice and such Judges of the Supreme Court as shall be appointed from time to time as members of the Committee by the Council of Judges, Her Majesty's Attorney-General for the State of Victoria, Her Majesty's Solicitor-General for the State of Victoria and six practising barristers and solicitors who shall be appointed by the Judges of -- 2 of 5 -- S.R. No. 59/1996 Supreme Court Library Rules 1996 2 the Supreme Court in December of each year to act during the ensuing year. The Council of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Victorian Bar Council may each nominate three such barristers and solicitors as aforesaid. In the event of a vacancy occurring during the year, the Judges may fill that vacancy. 6. Quorum The Committee shall meet at such times and places as the Chief Justice, or in his absence the senior Judge available, directs and five members shall be a quorum. 7. Secretary Unless some other person is appointed so to act, the Librarian shall be Secretary to the Committee. 8. Rules The Committee may make recommendations to the Judges of the Supreme Court for Rules to be made by the Judges providing for the management and good government of the library and penalties for breaches thereof and, subject to the Rules, members of the legal profession of Victoria shall have free access to the library.
